Brush with Celebrity

Well, last night was a ballet night. The National Ballet of Canada was performing The Taming of the Shrew. It was excellent. Jillian Vanstone was great as Kate. Nehemiah Kish is really coming along with his acting and put in a fantastic showing as the lead male (whose name escapes me at the moment). Special mention must go out to Nan Wang who did an excellent job of playing up the buffoonery in his character, which was one of Bianca's ill-fated suitors. The whole cast did well at the comedy. That aside though, I was sitting very close to none other than Karen Kain. So close, in fact, that if I had leaned a little forward and to the left I could have touched her. That was awesome. For those not in the know, she's now the artistic director of the NBoC, so it was really neat to watch her watch the show. To see her react to the various performances. To see that she too thought something was a little off in one scene, to see her appreciate the performances of others. And, at one point, I laughed out loud at a part and she looked over at me and smiled. Joy! It is so weird seeing people that you spent your childhood worshiping from afar. To see them up close, and to see them acting like normal humans. Extremely elegant and dignified normal humans, but people nonetheless.
