Who Doesn't Love a Crooner?

One of my favourite Christmas figures is always Bing Crosby - can't get enough of "White Christmas" with him and Danny Kaye, Vera Ellen, and Rosemary Clooney. And could there be anything more ridiculous than the Bing Crosby/David Bowie "Little Drummer Boy". Anyway, this little crooner is giving him a run for his money:
Thanks D. for this little gem!

Did you ever see the "Pop-Up Video" segment on the Crosby/Bowie "Little Drummer Boy" video? Apparently Bing was looking for a current pop star to duet with, and one of his kids suggested Bowie. Bowie had only recently shed the androgynous Ziggy Stardust persona and was trying to reinvent himself in a different light, and what's more normalizing than Bing Crosby?

It's unlikely Bing knew about Ziggy Stardust.

I can't say that I have. Poor old Bing, trying to get with the times.

There was also an absolutely horrendous Dave Foley Christmas Special a couple of years ago where he played Bowie to (I think) Joe Flaherty's Bing in a rather amusing little reenactment. Doesn't seem to be on YouTube though.

I've posted the Crosby/Bowie duet at my blog.

Fantastic. I still can't find the Foley/Flaherty one. Doesn't seem to be on Google video either. alas.
